Abstraction
Preference for direct facts and experience versus patterns, symbols, possibilities, and imagined alternatives.
What this is not
Intelligence or education.
Methodology
FicTwin matches people and characters on twelve continuous dimensions. Familiar type labels are approximate translations from FicTwin 12; they are not official assessment results.
The canonical model
Each position is a continuum, not a box. Neither endpoint is inherently better, healthier, or more capable.
Preference for direct facts and experience versus patterns, symbols, possibilities, and imagined alternatives.
Intelligence or education.
Which considerations normally lead when resolving a difficult choice.
Compassion or emotionality.
Reliance on personal codes versus established rules, traditions, institutions, or group norms.
Morality, goodness, or conscientiousness.
Preference for preparation, organization, closure, and known structure.
Obedience or ambition.
Persistence, achievement intensity, duty, and effort toward difficult goals.
Desire for power or moral worth.
Forethought, impulse restraint, and evaluation before acting.
Courage or threat sensitivity.
Whether solitude or social interaction is normally energizing.
Confidence, charisma, or leadership.
Readiness to state preferences, lead, influence, and confront.
Extraversion or aggression.
Sensitivity to suffering, mercy, warmth, and desire to help.
People-first decision making.
Indirect or adaptive influence and impression management versus direct, transparent dealing.
Evil versus good; both styles can be adaptive.
Sensitivity to danger, uncertainty, rejection, and possible loss.
Actual competence or cowardice.
Strength and speed of emotional reactions and the time required to recover.
Emotional openness or empathy.
Scoring
Every answer has small, versioned effects on one or more dimensions. For each dimension, the server sums the chosen effects and normalizes positive and negative opportunities separately against the strongest available score in that direction. A dimension with no scoring opportunity stays unknown—it is never silently treated as neutral.
The server recalculates the result from answer IDs and immutable question versions. The same complete inputs and version IDs always produce the same profile. Confidence records evidence coverage: how much relevant, usable evidence was present. It does not mean psychological certainty.
positive score = chosen positive effects / available positive opportunity negative score = chosen negative effects / available negative opportunity dimension confidence = usable weighted evidence / possible weighted evidence
Editorial method
Editors interpret repeated behavior and motivation, record contradictory evidence, and assign evidence coverage to each dimension. Profiles may differ by book scope as characters change or later books reveal context. Scope-specific pages use only the exact approved profile safe for that reading boundary.
Character profiles are editorial interpretations of fictional behavior and motivation. Reasonable readers may disagree, and profiles may change by reading scope.
Community ratings are proposals for editorial review. They never update production profiles or external labels automatically. Character classifications are deliberately debatable; fictional people are inconsistent, and interpretation carries cultural and editorial perspective.
Matching
Matching uses confidence-aware weighted distance. A dimension contributes only when both the reader and character have a usable value. Its effective weight is the test weight multiplied by the lower of the two evidence-coverage values.
effective weightᵢ = test weightᵢ × min(reader confidenceᵢ, character confidenceᵢ) distance = √(Σ effective weightᵢ × (readerᵢ − characterᵢ)² / (4 × Σ effective weightᵢ)) similarity index = 100 × (1 − distance)
If weighted coverage is below the test’s threshold, FicTwin asks for more answers instead of manufacturing a match. Candidate filters, approved reading scope, recognition tie-breaks, and cast-diversity rules then determine which results can appear.
A match score describes distance inside FicTwin's model. It is not the probability that you “are” a character.
Portability
These are one-way, theory-derived estimates from FicTwin 12. A familiar label cannot reconstruct a twelve-dimensional profile and never affects your character match.

Enneagram typing depends on motivations, fears, and defensive patterns that similar behavior cannot reveal. A character type appears only after scope-safe editorial motivation evidence is approved; a user type is stored only as a separate self-reported or provider-verified claim and never changes matching.

Honest uncertainty
X, balanced, partial, and not enough data are valid results. X appears near a four-letter boundary or when evidence coverage is low. Balanced means a continuous tendency is near the middle. Partial means FicTwin covers only part of an external construct.
Confidence always means evidence coverage—not certainty, accuracy probability, or confidence in a person’s identity.
Reproducibility
FicTwin 12 v1.0.0 · August 2026: introduced explicit endpoint definitions, per-dimension evidence coverage, confidence-aware matching, deterministic portability adapters, and immutable model snapshots.
Historical results stay pinned to the model, engine, question bank, test, dataset, scope, and adapter versions that created them. Earlier results may show an earlier-methodology notice and can be retaken; they are never silently rewritten.
Privacy
Raw answers, FicTwin vectors, dimension evidence, and external claims are private. Analytics receives only low-cardinality product events and never raw answers, vectors, confidence values, letters, types, or claims. User-facing portable labels are off on public profiles and shared results until the user explicitly opts in, and sharing can be withdrawn independently.
Responsible use
FicTwin is designed for entertainment and self-reflection. Do not use it for diagnosis, treatment, hiring, education placement, or decisions that materially affect another person.
The model and its adapters reflect theory-derived product choices, not established equivalence coefficients or population norms. Stories are culturally situated, editors bring perspective, and fictional characters can contradict themselves or change across a series. FicTwin does not provide clinical, employment, educational, or relationship-health assessment.
Sources
The design draws on established dimensional personality research and public descriptions of external constructs while using original questions and transparent FicTwin-authored formulas.
